Perhaps the most thrilling lion enclosure in the world awaits you! When you reach the area where the lions live, you take a tunnel until you arrive at the middle of the enclosure. Here you can observe "in the midst of the lions" the animals from a close proximity!
Around 1,500 animals live on a total area of 15 hectares. Eberswalde zoo has lots of room for animals and visitors and few fences, because the zoo animals also like to move around freely. Groups of monkeys and prosimians, who live completely in the open in the zoo's trees, are particularly popular with visitors. You can even enter most animal enclosures with your children. A direct visit to the kangaroos? No problem!
The large jungle house offers visitors fun, excitement and good insight into the life of a number of animals from all over the world. Brown bears and wolves share a communal enclosure. Parents and children quickly find the zoo's residents in spacious bird houses, which are outfitted just like the birds' natural habitat, or in the Ice Age glacier landscape with an integrated outdoor enclosure for Siberian tigers. Incidentally, the tiger tower is also a part of the Eberswalde Höhenpass.
Animal babies are visitor magnets and are especially popular with children. Around 150 animals are born in the zoo annually, thus securing the population of a number of endangered animals, such as tigers, leopards, cheetahs, monkeys, penguins and eagles.
So much information, and the kids want to swing on climbing frames like monkeys in trees too. A total of five adventure play areas offer lots of room to play around and in the petting zoo, ponies, donkeys and goats, among others, can be fed and petted. Finally, no one has to go home as hungry as a lion: There are lots of tasty meals for both big and small in the "Brauner Bär" (brown bear) restaurant.
Good to know: Parking and lockable bicycle and motorbike boxes are available free of charge. Dogs on a short lead are also allowed in the park, free of charge. Practical handcarts for families and groups are also for hire.
The zoo is open all year round, even on public holidays, daily from 9 am until dusk.
